The IFLA Division B Sections and SIGs are proud to be part of the 24 hours of Global IT event, organized by the IFLA Information Technology Section, IFLA Artificial Intelligence (AI) Special Interest Group, and IFLA Big Data Special Interest Group. During this 24-hour webinar the Division B units will have the chance to present their views and experience on AI, on August 28, 2024, 19:45 CEST / 13:45 EST, for 45 minutes followed by a 15 minutes Q&A session.

A panel of presenters drawn from the different library sectors of Division B will debate regarding the impact of AI in their fields:

  • How are government, parliamentary, and law libraries, and government information and official publications affected by the AI?
  • How does the role of the librarian change in a world of AI?
  • How does AI potentially impact diversity, equality and inclusion in this majority female profession?
  • Is the whole profession under threat or can we reinvent our skills to demonstrate our continuing relevance?
  • How is AI changing employment practices? What sort of workforce development strategies are relevant?
  • And, finally, how are the users’ behaviors and needs changing?

Making sense of these changes is challenging due to their speed, depth and complexity. Taking advantage of those changes’ variations across the Division’s sectors, we create opportunities to learn from each other, to share insights and to collaborate.
