UNESCO is preparing a Draft Recommendation on Open Educational Resources (OER), as the next step forwards in its work in the area. Global Media and Information Week 2018 will take place from 24 to 31 October 2018, and provides an opportunity to discuss – and celebrate – the importance of skills as both a response to the challenges of a digital world, and an opportunity for people of all ages. IFLA is playing an active role in the preparation of the events, and encourages its members and the broader library community to get involved!
The 36th session of the World Intellectual Property Organisation (WIPO) Standing Committee on Copyright and Related Rights (SCCR) will focus on defining action plans on copyright provisions for libraries. With these, we hope to see the organisation move in the direction of concrete steps that will make a real difference for our institutions. As the organisation that gave the world the Marrakesh Treaty, WIPO is well placed to drive change that delivers sustainable development.

#1Lib1Ref – one librarian, one reference – is the Wikimedia Foundation’s initiative to engage the collective knowledge of libraries to improve the quality and reliability of Wikipedia articles. At a time of worry about fake news, the need for broad access to reliable, fact-checked information – rather than censorship – has never been higher. IFLA encourages librarians around the world to take part.
Print out the posters to help breaking the cycle of illiteracy.
The IFLA Global Vision Regional Workshop arrived in Paris, France on 14 - 16 May for Europe's turn to generate their ideas for actions and what a wealth of ideas there were!
