The ISBD Review Group is seeking candidates to join its revision works aiming at aligning the ISBD to the IFLA Library Reference Model (LRM).
Urban October – celebrated throughout the month by UN HABITAT – is an opportunity to highlight contributions, and so urban development is also the theme of this newsletter. World Statistics Day is celebrated around the globe on 20 October quinquennially, first celebrated in 2010. The theme of the third World Statistics Day was “Connecting the world with data we can trust”, reflecting the importance of trust, authoritative data, innovation and public good in national statistical systems. The celebration of World Statistics Day is a global collaborative endeavour, organised under the guidance of the United Nations Statistical Commission. The IFLA Statistics and Evaluation Section asked an Assessment Librarian to provide their thoughts on five questions regarding statistics and assessment in libraries today, and what may be the future of data gathering.

The webinar is organized by the joint team of two IFLA Sections – Information Literacy (IL) and School Libraries (SL) – and is delivered online within the programs of celebrations and initiatives for the Global Media and Information Literacy Week 2022, promoted by UNESCO, and the International School Library Month 2022, promoted by the International Association of School Librarianship (IASL).

The Third Meeting of the Network of Parliamentary Libraries for Latin America and the Caribbean was held at the Congress of the Argentine Nation on September 19-21, 2022. Authorities of libraries and information agencies of Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Cuba, El Salvador, Ecuador, Guatemala, Mexico, Nicaragua, Paraguay, Peru, Puerto Rico and Uruguay shared experiences and proposals on different activities. The legislatures of the Argentine provinces were also part of the event.
The September 2022 edition of the IFLA Asia and Oceania Regional Newsletter includes editorials from the Chair of the Asia-Oceania Regional Division Committee, the Manager of the Regional Office for Asia and Oceania, and news both from IFLA and the region and beyond. This covers work in Malaysia, Maldives, Indonesia, Tonga, New Zealand, and China.
IFLA attended a meeting of the UNESCO World Book Capital Network in Wroclaw, Poland, on 22-23 September, bringing the perspective of the global library field as the participating cities formally signed the Network charter, and made plans for future actions.
As part of a global group of organisations committed to promoting access to knowledge at the World Intellectual Property Organization and beyond, IFLA encourages the library field to engage with a new website which shares key resources and data for advocacy and awareness-raising.
In 2022, Global MIL Week, hosted by Nigeria, will focus is on MIL’s role in nurturing trust, advancing social protection, and encouraging collective solidarity, to be explored through the theme, “Nurturing trust: A Media and Information Literacy Imperative”.
Library and Archives of People’s Majlis hope to see more libraries and institutions take the initiative to restore and preserve their collections as the handwritten records in any institution are vital cultural heritage – not only to the institution which holds the collection, but to the country too.
