IFLA’s Global Vision regional workshops to commence in North America
20 Juli 2024
IFLA’s Global Vision discussion is bringing together thousands of representatives of the library field worldwide to explore how a connected library field can meet the challenges of the future.
We believe that creating a global vision for a united and connected library field will help achieve one of the true potentials of libraries: to build literate, informed and participative societies.
IFLA is facilitating this global discussion through a series of high-level meetings and workshops in different parts of the world following a kick-off event in Athens, Greece on 4 April 2017. Face-to-face and online, future-oriented conversations will be taking place throughout the year.
Regional meetings
Six regional meetings will commence shortly and are being held in:
- North America (3-4 May, Washington, D.C., USA)
- Africa (14-15 May, Yaoundé, Cameroon)
- Middle East (21-22 May, Alexandria, Egypt)
- Latin America and the Caribbean (8-9 June, Buenos Aires, Argentina)
- Asia Oceania (28-29 June, Singapore)
- Europe (5-6 July, Madrid, Spain)
Our first regional meeting will be held at the Library of Congress in Washington D.C.
IFLA President Donna Scheeder and Secretary General Gerald Leitner will be hosting an interactive workshop that gathers together senior representatives from different types of libraries in the United States and Canada.
Participants will be exploring the future of libraries and developing ways to tackle the challenges and opportunities that the library field will face. They will continue engagement by taking the discussion back to their own library communities and the input we receive will be collected and analyzed by IFLA and go on to provide a basis for the IFLA Global Vision report which will be published in early 2018.
Become a part of the global brainstorm
IFLA needs your expert input and participation in the Global Vision discussion so we can make the library field as ready as possible for what tomorrow might bring.
To make this a true global brainstorm, we want to see participation from all countries in the world. To this end, resource packages on how to organize, facilitate and promote Global Vision meetings will soon be available on the IFLA Global Vision website.
