Practical Solutions to Global Challenges: Libraries Speak at Arab Sustainable Development Forum

    Faced with major challenges around literacy and making best use of information and knowledge, the Arab world needs its libraries as much as ever. With them, development can work for everyone. IFLA attended the Arab Sustainable Development Forum (AFSD) 2018, underlining that political discussions had to be followed with practical action, and that in this, libraries were key players.

      El 19 de abril, durante la Segunda Reunión del Foro de los Países de América Latina y el Caribe sobre el Desarrollo Sostenible realizada en Santiago, Chile, la Biblioteca Hernán Santa Cruz de la CEPAL organizó un evento paralelo en colaboración con la IFLA: “La importancia del acceso a la información para alcanzar el desarrollo sostenible en América Latina y el Caribe”.

        On 19 April, during the Second Meeting of the Forum of the Countries of Latin America and the Caribbean on Sustainable Development in Santiago, Chile, ECLAC’s Hernán Santa Cruz Library hosted a side event in partnership with IFLA: “The importance of access to information to achieve sustainable development in Latin America and the Caribbean”. As a highlight of IFLA’s participation at the Forum, is the inclusion of access to information and culture in the text of the Civil Society declaration read in the afternoon of the same day.
