How to develop parliamentary library services based on the needs of customers

The IFLA Library and Research Services for Parliaments Section is happy to announce the collaboration with the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) in launching a series of webinars to honour the memory of Donna Scheeder, IFLA President 2015-2017 and a past Chair of IFLA PARL.

The first webinar of the series is taking place on Tuesday, 12 November 2024, hosted by the IPU. An one-hour interactive session aims to introduce the key themes from the 3rd edition of the Guidelines for Parliamentary Libraries, jointly published by IPU and IFLA in 2022, and how to use them to develop services based on the needs of customers.

Program

The webinar will include:

A presentation from one of the Guidelines’ authors, Edward Wood, which will cover:

  • The role good information plays in how parliaments work
  • The information needs of Members for the different roles they play
  • Taking account of the pressures Members operate under
  • How Parliamentary Libraries can help with Members’ information needs
  • Basic steps for starting or building Parliamentary Library Services

And a Q&A session with a distinguished panel of senior parliamentary librarians from around the world.

Two same content sessions, at different times, are scheduled in order to enable participants in different time zones (please, indicate in the registration form which session you wish to join):

Session 1: 10.00 – 11.00 Geneva CET (interpretation in English, French, Arabic)

Session 2: 16.00 – 17.00 Geneva CET (interpretation in English, Spanish)

Join us to explore the fundamentals of developing a parliamentary library service focused on customers and to take advantage of the knowledge and experience of leading practitioners.
