International Day for the Universal Access to Information Endorsed by UN General Assembly

    Four years after its creation by UNESCO, the International Day for the Universal Access to Information has been formally added to the United Nations calendar. In a resolution passed by the General Assembly, Heads of State and government, and their representatives, agreed that 28 September should be the opportunity to recall, and celebrate, the importance of this for development and democracy.

    A Look Ahead to the 2019 Annual Internet Governance Forum Meeting

      Between 25 and 29 November, 2019, IFLA will be taking part in the 14th annual Internet Governance Forum meeting in Berlin. IFLA has participated in IGF events since 2008; and we continue our involvement in policy discussions relevant for the library field: public internet access facilities, digital and information literacy, intellectual freedom in the digital sphere, and many others.

      Steps towards Stronger Libraries in the MENA Region

        With its new Strategy, IFLA not only has a new guiding star for the work of our professional units and headquarters team, but also a reference point for the field as a whole. With the workshop on strategies for stronger libraries in Alexandria, Egypt, IFLA brought new possibilities for alignment and synergies to the Middle East and North Africa region.

        IFLA Input to 2019 WSIS Review

          The World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS) process is a UN-based initiative to bridge the digital divide, foster an inclusive information society and promote the use of ICT for development. Libraries have an important role to play in achieving these goals, and IFLA has been actively involved with the WSIS process since its first phase in Geneva in 2003. This includes contributing to annual reports to take stock of the progress made towards the WSIS Action Lines and Targets – and the 2019 IFLA submission is now available!

            La 39ème réunion du Comité permanent du droit d'auteur et des droits connexes de l'Organisation mondiale de la propriété intellectuelle a vu l'émergence d'un accord possible sur la préservation, mais aussi l'opposition permanente des pays à nier la réalité de la collaboration transfrontalière entre bibliothèques.
