Without a strong commitment to multilingualism underpinning our core work, IFLA would not be able to bridge the cultural differences across the library community and wider environment in which libraries operate. Two new translations of the IFLA Srategy help expand our reach by more than 400,000,000 people.

IFLA joined cultural heritage practitioners, policymakers and stakeholders from civil society in Paris on 30 October to discuss the role of cultural heritage at the heart of the revival of the European project.
The World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS) process is a UN-based initiative to bridge the digital divide, foster an inclusive information society and promote the use of ICT for development. Libraries have an important role to play in achieving these goals, and IFLA has been actively involved with the WSIS process since its first phase in Geneva in 2003. This includes contributing to annual reports to take stock of the progress made towards the WSIS Action Lines and Targets – and the 2019 IFLA submission is now available!

The 39th meeting of the World Intellectual Property Organisation’s Standing Committee on Copyright and Related Rights saw the shape of a possible agreement on preservation emerge, but also continued opposition from countries denying the reality of cross-border collaboration between libraries.

From 18th to 19th October 2019, the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) hosted an international conference on issues of copyright exceptions and limitations for libraries, archives and museums.
This Friday 18th October, the International Conference on Exceptions and Limitations at the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) begins. It will be an opportunity to deliver on the mandate given by Member States "to consider the opportunities and challenges provided by various international solutions including soft law, contractual/licensing and normative approaches, as appropriate". IFLA will be there, encouraging stakeholders to deliver a concrete action plan that improves the situation for libraries.
