Libraries and the Bulgarian EU Presidency share the same goals – a stronger, more cohesive Europe, built on creativity, innovation and inclusion. Every day, libraries across the continent are working to give their users access to the information they need to learn and develop, the skills they need to get the best out of the Internet, and a connection to a rich cultural heritage. IFLA's open letter sets out how we can take this potential further still.
DEADLINE EXTENDED: The IFLA Environment, Sustainability and Libraries Special Interest Group joined with Libraries for Children and Young Adults Section, invite interested professionals to submit proposals for the open session to be held during IFLA WLIC in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, from 24-30 August 2018.
When the World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS) set out principles for how the Internet should be run in 2003, the governments present fixed the target of connecting public libraries. When these targets were updated in 2010, governments underlined – all libraries should be connected to the Internet, in order to support a Web that works for all. IFLA's contribution to WSIS annual reporting reflects on progress made in 2017, and to be made in 2018.

Cultural rights have long been recognised as a pillar of human rights, and women's cultural rights are no exception. A new paper from IFLA brings together lessons from a satellite meeting at last year's WLIC to show how libraries are working to defend these.
Have you ever made a quick judgement about someone because of what they’re wearing? Sure, we have all done it. Does this mean that the way we dress at work influences how we are perceived and categorized in society?
Library Services to People with Special Needs Section joint with the Libraries for Children and Young Adults Section invite interested individuals and groups to submit presentation proposals for a Satellite Meeting to be held Thursday, 23 August, 2018 at National Library Building, Singapore.

Providing access to information, and in particular libraries, is key to making for inclusive and sustainable development, IFLA therefore surveyed its members to establish whether libraries had policies – or programmes – in place. The results were presented in New York, at a meeting on 13-15 November by Nancy Bolt, a member of the Section on Library Services to People with Special Needs.

We invite proposals for papers to be presented at a two hour program.
