FAIFE's events at the World Library and Information Congress are listed below.     Copyright and Other Legal Matters at the World Library and Information Congress (WLIC)

      The Copyright and Other Legal Matters (CLM) Strategic Programme represents the voice of the international library community in copyright and other legal concerns. CLM strongly advocates at the World Intellectual Property Organisation (WIPO), Geneva, for a minimum international standard of exceptions and limitations to copyright, alongside partner organisations. CLM is also active in issues relating to economic and legal barriers to the acquisition and use of library resources and effective library services, subscription and license agreements, legal issues relevant to broader access to knowledge, in particular online and a wide range of other legal matters of international significance to libraries and librarianship. At this years’ World Library and Information Congress (WLIC) in Wroclaw, Poland, CLM Committee members have organised several sessions.

      Call for Participation Grant Application: 2017 IFLA Interlending and Document Supply Conference

        The IFLA Document Delivery and Resource Sharing Section has a pleasure to announce the 2017 ILDS Conference Participation Grants for the librarians from the region who normally cannot attend IFLA events due to financial or other reasons. The regions available for the grants are Francophone countries in Africa and countries in Northern Africa. The grants will include the cost of travel to and from Paris, the registration fee, and hotel accommodation.

          For the first time in the history of IFLA’s World Library and Information Congress (WLIC), we will be live streaming a selection of the larger sessions so that our library friends all over the world, unable to come to the 83rd WLIC in Wroclaw Poland, can still be a part of one of the biggest annual international library and information events.

          Libraries at the Heart of Internet Governance Discussions in Latin America

            The 10th Latin America and Caribbean Internet Governance Forum (LACIGF) took place in Panama City, on 2-4 August. LACIGF provides a space for multi-sectoral dialogue on the Internet Governance agenda for the region. IFLA was represented, highlighting how libraries can help tackle key issues facing the Internet today, from cost of access to educating Internet users about how to spot fake news.

            Is Malawi’s accession to the Marrakesh Treaty effectively addressing the book famine?

              The Marrakesh Treaty to Facilitate Access to Published Works for Persons Who Are Blind, Visually Impaired or Otherwise Print Disabled, adopted on June 27, 2013, has been implemented in 30 countries to date, among which Malawi. The country’s accession instrument has been recently deposited at WIPO, and the Treaty will be in force in the country in October 14, 2017.
