Libraries included in the recently published Finnish National Development Plan
22 February 2017On 2 February 2017, Finland published its National Development Plan for implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals to achieve the UN Agenda 2030. The plan includes libraries. Libraries are acknowledged in the context of the action plan to prevent hate speech and racism and to promote social inclusion: “The role of public libraries as promoters of active citizenship, cultural diversity and democracy shall be strengthened”.

13 February 2017Education is central to the work of libraries, from simply giving access to books to more formal courses on anything from literacy and language to computer skills, creative writing and other subjects. To facilitate this, libraries, schools and other institutions offering education need copyright rules that make it easy to create and use materials for teaching. IFLA, alongside 33 other organisations, has called on the EU to pass reforms that will set an example for this.

5 February 2017The Government Libraries, Library and Research Services for Parliaments and Law Libraries Sections invite proposals for presentations, to be presented as one of the sessions in the next IFLA General Conference to be held on August 2017 in Wroclaw, Poland. We welcome proposals from individuals and organizations who can share views and implementations on Government/Parliamentary libraries helping to deliver the access to information elements of the UN Sustainable Development Goals. The deadline for submissions is 3 March 2017.
Satellite Meeting on Government Libraries - Berlin 2017
5 February 2017Linking Advocacy to UN’s Sustainable Development Goals. The Government Libraries Section is hosting a satellite meeting to be held in Berlin, Germany just after the IFLA annual conference - WLIC 2017. We will revise the Guidelines for Libraries of Government Departments, in particular chapter 11, related to advocacy, tying it with the aspects of public access to information of the UN Sustainable Development Goals.
APLIC has a new website
5 February 2017The Association of Parliamentary Libraries in Canada (APLIC) is pleased to announce its new website. Completely redesigned, visitors can learn more about the Association and its members. The Member Vignettes highlight interesting facts and historical notes about each jurisdiction. The Government and Legislative Libraries Online Publications Portal (GALLOP Portal) provides access to over 475,000 fulltext documents from contributing jurisdictions as well as the federal Depository Services Program.
