As part of the Midterm Meeting of IFLA’s Regional Division Committee for Latin America and the Caribbean, the International Seminar on Advocacy: “Working Experiences for the Advocacy of Libraries at LAC” was held in the city of Santa Marta, Colombia, on Friday, May 20.
Supporting learning is at the heart of the mission of libraries, and indeed in many cases is why they were built in the first place. However, this role isn't always as celebrated as much as it should be. However, there are great examples of our institutions taking the lead, as our interview with some of the team behind the Global Learning Festival shows. We talked to Lara Pugh, Project Leader Learning City, Wollongong City Libraries and Global Learning Festival Working Group member, and Diane Tabbagh, Coordinator Learning Community, Wyndham City Council and Global Learning Festival Working Group Chair.

The Evidence for Global and Disaster Health (E4GDH) special interest group is delighted that IFLA is now a signatory for the Cochrane Call to Action, to improve evidence-informed decision-making in preparation for future health crises.

Action is needed to ensure that everyone benefits from the infrastructure needed to achieve this. On 20-22 May 1947, IFLA’s first council meeting following the end of the Second World War was held in Oslo, Norway. It was here that IFLA signed an agreement to cooperate with the newly formed United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO)

IFLA was proud to attend WIPO SCCR/42, May 9 – 13, an eventful week that saw discussions of the impact of COVID-19 on libraries and a commitment to further study cross-border challenges and develop toolkits on copyright limitations and exceptions before SCCR/43 in 2023.
